Japan May Exports +0.6% Y/Y; Imports -9.9% Y/Y

  • Japan's exports registered a 0.6% y/y increase in May, slower than the 2.6% y/y growth marked in April.
  • Imports fell 9.9% y/y in May, dip further from the 2.3% y/y drop last month, marking the second monthly drop.
  • Trade balance in May was a deficit of Y1.37 trillion, expanding from the previous Y432 billion deficit.
  • Exports to the United States and the European Union rose 9.4% y/y and 16.6% y/y respectively, and to China decreased 3.4% y/y.
  • Imports from the United States increased 1.5% and from the EU and China fell 2.5% y/y and 5.9% y/y, respectively.
