Japan Nov Exports -4.2% y/y; Imports -11.1% y/y

  • Japan's exports dropped 4.2% y/y in November, accelerating the previous 0.2% fall and marking the 24th consecutive monthly decline.
  • Imports reported an 11.1% y/y decrease in November, improving slightly from the 13.3% y/y fall registered in October.
  • November's trade balance was a surplus of Y366.8 billion, narrowed from last month's Y871.7 billion surplus.
  • Exports to China rose 3.8% y/y while those to the United States and the European Union fell 2.5% y/y and 2.6% y/y respectively.
  • Imports from the United States and the European Union registered falls of 13.9% y/y and 17.3% y/y respectively. Imports from China grew 6.7% y/y.
