US DATA PREVIEW
US DATA PREVIEW: July Retail Sales Preview - 08:30 EDT/13:30 BST
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Retail sales are expected to rise by 0.3% in July based on both the Bloomberg
consensus an MNI survey of analysts. This follows a 0.4% gain in June.
- Excluding motor vehicles, sales are expected to post another 0.4% increase
according to both surveys.
- An MNI preview published on Thursday noted that auto sales are expected to be
flat, but rising gasoline prices and a solid Amazon Prime day should add
strongly to both overall and ex-motor vehicle sales.
- There is a tendency to overestimate headline retail sales in July, but the
direction of misses for ex-motor vehicles sales is less clear.
