June Swiss-Austria JAO CBC Auction Price Flips to Premium

Settled prices on the cross-border capacity (CBC) auction for delivery in June on the Joint Allocation Office (JAO) on the Swiss-Austrian border flipped to a premium compared to the previous month, data from JAO show.

  • All 275MW of offered capacity in the Swiss-Austrian direction was allocated at €4.85/MWh compared to €1.41/MWh also for 275MW for May delivery.
  • In the other direction, 178MW of offered capacity was allocated at €3.05/MWh, down from May delivery when 178MW went for €6.27/MWh.
  • This switched the inferred Austrian-Swiss spread, with Austria now at a €1.80/MWh discount compared to a €4.86/MWh premium for May delivery.
  • Switzerland has remained at a slight net import position to Austria so far in May at around 4MW, sharply down from 131MW in April and 444MW in March – the yearly high.
  • Austria’s June power contract closed at a €4.77/MWh premium to the Swiss equivalent on 20 May, down from the high of €7.86/MWh on 17 May.
