Just How Weak Is The JPY At Present?

JPY

When looking to contextualise the current level of weakness in the JPY we note that the REER, as outlined by Citi’s broad measure, has moved to all-time lows in recent days (based on records stretching back to the late 1980’s). Meanwhile, the move in trade weighted terms isn’t as historical, even with Japan’s reliance on energy and raw material imports weighing on the JPY. As a result, Deutsche Bank’s JPY TWI prints at the lowest level observed since ’15.
