Justice Minister Says Hungary Has “Fully Delivered” on Judicial Reforms

HUNGARY
  • Departing Justice Minister Judit Varga has written a letter to the European Commissioner for Justice informing him that Hungary has "fully delivered" on commitments related to judicial milestones, MTI report. Varga said in Facebook post on Friday that Hungary had adopted a package of legislation on the judiciary in May and commitments had been "implemented in practice". She called on Brussels to pay the EU funds to which Hungarians "are entitled".
  • The government will not abandon the utility cuts "as suggested by Brussels", the head of the Prime Minister's Office, Gergely Gulyas, said on a podcast as per MTI. "There will be no austerity measures. They have never been a tool of Hungary's civic governments," he said, adding that "removing measures benefitting residents is… inconceivable." Concerning next year's budget, Gulyas said it was designed to offset high energy prices or inflation.
