FED: Kaplan: Risks From Global Growth, Trade Uncertainty Could Mean Rate Cut
(WSJ)
- Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan said he supported the central bank's move
to cut its benchmark interest rate by a quarter point last month -- and is open
to another reduction in the months ahead.
- Even though U.S. consumer sentiment and spending have been strong, Mr. Kaplan
said Thursday that clouds were gathering across other parts of the global
economy, including from a pronounced escalation in trade policy uncertainty.
- Another rate reduction might be needed to guard against the risk that a
slowdown in U.S. business investment and global manufacturing activity doesn't
spill over into other parts of the domestic economy, Mr. Kaplan said in an
interview at the Kansas City Fed's annual symposium.
