Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in Oil Shipment Discussions

Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are in talks to set up a joint venture that would handle all shipments of Kazakh crude through Azeri territory as Astana diverts more oil to the Caucasus from Russia, according to Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin.

  • Kazakhstan is pumping oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and moving it by railway through Azerbaijan to Georgia. The sides are also discussing shipments via the Baku-Supsa pipeline.
