Kazakhstan to Boost Oil Processing to 27m mtpa

Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry has announced that there are plans to boost oil processing to 27m mtpa, according to BBC citing Kazakh state-run news agency Kazinform.

  • The announcement follows reports of a shortage of diesel, jet fuel, and bitumen in Kazakhstan, driven by inadequate capacity at the three major refineries, which currently process 18m mtpa.
  • Under plans, the Shymkent oil refinery's capacity double to 12m mtpa, the Pavlodar petroleum chemical plant will rise from 5.5m mtpa to 8m mtpa, and the Atyrau oil refinery's capacity will increase to 1m mtpa.
