Key Court Rulings Eyed, NFP Data On Tap

SOUTH AFRICA
  • The Electoral Court will today announce its decision whether ex-President Jacob Zuma's MK Party can participate in the upcoming elections. The party was taken to court by the ruling African National Congress (ANC), which pointed to irregularities surrounding its registration.
  • Speaker Mapisa-Nqakula will not participate in the final week of proceedings of the sixth parliament, which effectively ends her political career, given her intention to retire after the upcoming election. The High Court is set to deliver a ruling in her corruption case next Tuesday.
  • Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor said she was "horrified" by a draft US bill calling on the White House to review relations with South Africa. The bipartisan legislation cleared the first hurdle in the House Foreign Relations Committee and will be brought to the full House of Representatives for a vote.
  • South Africa's leading indicator edged higher to 110.8 in January from the revised 111.3 recorded in December. Looking further afield, Q4 non-farm payrolls will be released at 09:30GMT/11:30SAST.
  • The National Treasury will hold a weekly auction, offering ZAR1.3bn of 2037 bonds, ZAR1.3bn of 2040 bonds and ZAR1.3bn of 2048 bonds for sale.
