Key Metrics Holding Shy Of Extremes Ahead Of RBA

AUSSIE BONDS

The previously flagged trans-Tasman impetus stemming from a more hawkish view from ASB re: the RBNZ, coupled with the steepening witnessed in U.S. Tsys has placed pressure on the Aussie bond space ahead of the RBA decision, leaving YM -2.5 & XM -3.5 at typing.

  • Both the AUD 1-Year/1-Year forward swap rate and the ACGB Apr '24/Nov '24 yield spread have consolidated a little way off of their recent hawkish extremes (we have covered dynamics in both these markets in some depth in recent weeks/months), with some profit taking/nerves surrounding the local COVID picture likely evident in recent sessions ahead of today's key RBA decision.
