Kganyago Discusses Green Transition, Eskom To Move Between Suspended & Stage 2 Power Cuts

  • SARB Governor Lesetja Kganyago called on wealthy nations to share the cost of the green transition instead of "hoarding" the technologies needed for the process. The official noted that "a just transition requires that benefits and costs are shared more equally within countries but also amongst countries".
  • Eskom announced that "owing to stable generation capacity" loadshedding would remain suspended until 16:00 on Monday. Thereafter, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 until 05:00 on Tuesday. This pattern will be repeated daily until further notice.
  • BusinessDay reports that "Transnet is moving super-slowly to implement the private sector partnerships it promised at its ailing port and rail facilities" as the group's "new partner at its key Durban container terminal will only start in April 2024 at the earliest".
  • South Africa's data docket is empty until Wednesday, when the country will report September CPI figures.
