Khameni: European Countries' Actions Unjust

IRAN

Ayatollah Khameni states that the "E3 must be held to account for failing to honor their commitments" in relation to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA, the Iran nuclear deal) and that Iran will not abandon its stance on the deal .

  • Adds that Tehran will not yield to outside pressure, that Iran can enrich uranium up to 60% (anything over 90% is deemed weapons-grade), and that nobody could stop Iran developing a nuclear weapon if it wanted to.
  • Khameni's bellicose rhetoric comes in contrast to the more conciliatory actions taken by gov't in recent days (e.g. renewing ability of IAEA inspectors to observe facilities) in an effort to get the US to the negotiating table on potentially rejoining JCPoA.
