Kishida Pledges To Prepare Stimulus Package By Mid-November

JAPAN

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held a press conference after the election to Japan's House of Representatives:

  • The Premier pledged to launch vaccinations with third "booster" jabs in December, expand access to free tests and implement an oral drug for Covid-19 by the year-end.
  • The decision on whether to accept LDP Secretary General Amari's resignation will be made "as soon as possible."
  • The Cabinet will compile a "large-scale" stimulus package in mid-November and include it in the extra budget to be passed this year.
  • Ministers will consider re-starting the "Go To Travel" campaign and work on a concrete action plan to increase wages.
  • Kishida noted that the LDP will keep its alliance with Komeito but may discuss cooperating with Nippon Ishin no Kai on a policy-by-policy basis.
