- China’s President Xi Jinping accepted Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s invitation to take part in Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9, Moscow’s Ambassador to China said according to Tass. Meanwhile, Xi invited Putin to visit China in early September.
- Citing Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, Bloomberg report that the Kremlin on Sunday declined to confirm or deny that the Russian President had spoken with US President Donald Trump, after the New York Post cited the US leader saying they’d discussed the war in Ukraine on a phone call. “I personally may not know something, may not be aware of something. This is why I can neither confirm nor deny it in this case,” Peskov told Russian news services.
- Meanwhile, Interfax report that Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov will hold a news conference on Russia-US relations and arms-control issues at 11:00GMT/14:00 local.
- There are no major data releases scheduled for today, with domestic focus on CPI data and the CBR rate decision both due Friday. All 23 analysts polled by Vedomosti believe that the central bank will keep its key interest rate unchanged at 21%.
