POWER: Kremlin Downplays Finland’s Action as Estonia Protects Power Cable
POWER
The Kremlin has downplayed Finland’s boarding of a Russian oil vessel linked to the Estlink 2 outage, while Estonia's military has initiated a naval operation to safeguard the Estlink 1 cable in the Baltic Sea, the Kremlin and Estonia said, cited by Reuters.
- Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added that it is a "narrow-profile issue" and not within the scope of the Russian presidential administration's responsibilities.
- The outage at the Estlink 2 between Finland and Estonia on 25 December will last until 31 July 2025, according to the latest Remit data.
- The curtailment was originally supposed to last until the end of 25 December but was extended to 26 December before being pushed back to 31 December.
- The outage is due to a cable failure at the subsea connection in the northern Gulf of Finland, not onshore.
- The outage will not prevent the planned disconnection of the Baltic states from the Russian power network set for early February 2025, TSO Elering said.
