Kremlin Forces Cut Off Key Eastern City of Severodonetsk

  • The eastern city of Severodonetsk has reportedly been surrounded by Russian forces, with the last key bridge exiting the city destroyed. Russia have called on the remaining Ukrainian resistance to lay down arms today or risk becoming another casualty in the fight that is costing the Ukrainian army as many as 200 men per day, according to the Ukrainian administration.
  • Kommersant reports that Gazprom have been reducing gas deliveries to Europe due to equipment issues. The report follows a 40% drop in Nord Stream flows yesterday, with the company only able to supply 100 mcm/day of gas. The technical issues lie at the Portovaya pumping station on the Baltic coast, with Siemens supposedly failing to return some repaired equipment on schedule.
  • The St Petersburg International Economic Forum begins today. Over 40 countries are said to be sending delegations to the forum, with the focus on an appearance from Russian President Putin, who will reportedly give his assessment of the situation in global policy and the economy.
  • Appearances are also due from various foreign ministry officials, as well as development ministers focused on digital communications, the far east and the Arctic. Separately, deputy finance minister Sazanov is to take part in a State Duma hearing.
  • Weekly CPI data crosses later today, after last week’s numbers showed a moderation in inflationary pressure.
