Kremlin Refers to Turkish Gas Hub as "Complex Project"

The Kremlin said Monday that work to create a gas hub in Turkey was a complex project that would require time to come to fruition.

  • The hub has been publicly supported by both Erdogan and Putin, though details around how it will work remain unclear. Many European leaders have stated their distrust towards importing gas from such a setup.
  • As well as a Turkish gas hub, Russia is hosting Chinese President Xi this week with gas discussions likely to be a key part of the agenda as Russia aims to shift more volumes east.
  • Russian gas infrastructure is geared up to move volumes west meaning it requires commitments from new trading partners like China to support huge infrastructure projects required to redirect flows longer term.
