  • Kremlin: Ukraine's ambitions to join NATO remain a threat to our country. These ambitions highlight the need for Russia's 'special military operation' in Ukraine'.
  • Kremlin: Other regions can compensate for Europe's demand for Russian gas.
Prospect of Ukraine joining NATO any time soon is almost non-existent. In order to join the defensive alliance a country must not have any territorial disputes with neighbours, which clearly would disqualify Ukraine from entering accession talks.
  • Ukrainian forces continue to push towards the borders of the so-called Luhansk People's Republic in the Donbas region in the east of Ukraine. Earlier this week, Peskov downplayed talk of a general mobilisation to bolster depleted Russian forces in Ukraine. However, following such a rapid Ukrainian advance the prospect of a Russian retaliation remains pertinent.
