Kyiv Says "There Is No Question" Of Surrendering Mariupol

Ukraine will not comply with the Russian ultimatum and surrender the city of Mariupol, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk told Ukrainska Pravda. She noted that Kyiv has already communicated its decision to Moscow.

  • In a formal letter sent earlier to the Ukrainian government, the UN and the ICRC, Russia demanded that the defenders of Mariupol lay down their arms and promised to open humanitarian corridor once the city surrenders.
  • In the response cited by Deputy Prime Minister Vereshchuk, Ukraine has asked Russia to "just open the corridors" and informed the UN and ICRC about acts of terror committed by Russian troops in the besieged port city.
