US PRESS: Kyle Cheney from Politico tweets, "Supreme Court upholds states'
ability to enforce electors' pledges to the candidate who wins the statewide
popular vote. In other words, "faithless electors" are likely a thing of the
past."
- Previously, those electors sent to the Electoral College to officially elect a
new president were not legally obliged at the federal level to vote for the
candidate that voters in their state had elected, and were known as 'faithless
electors'
- Following the 2016 presidential election, 7 electors (5 Democrat, 2
Republican) voted for candidates other than the ones voted for by their state. 
- Ahead of the November 2020 election there had been speculation that there was
a notable prospect of faithless electors refusing to vote for either Donald
Trump or Joe Biden against the vote of their state's electorate.
