LA Refiners Indicate Demand for Canadian Crude

OIL

Canadian crude shipments to Los Angeles are rising, highlighting how the new Trans Mountain Pipeline flows may readjust buying patterns.

  • Three tankers carrying a total of 1.74 million barrels of Canadian crude have sailed from Vancouver to LA in March – the highest in over 4 years – two of which went to Marathon.
  • Marathon may be using Canadian oil after delays at two Mexican export terminals crimped supplies of Zapoteco crude according to Vortexa analysis.
  • The 890,000 bpd TMX pipeline is set to start operations in Q2 and boost flows to China but are also expected to see higher demand on the US West Coast due to the proximity.
