UK: Labour offer to women 'drives cart and horses' through budget plan (The
Times)
- Labour has been accused of driving a "cart and horses" through its commitment
to balance the books after announcing it would spend GBP58billion compensating
more than three million women left out of pocket by rises in the state pension
age. John McDonnell, the shadow chancellor, announced the funding package to end
the "historic injustice" faced by women born in the 1950s, who said they were
given insufficient notice of big changes to the state pension age. However Paul
Johnson, the head of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, said that the policy is
"not costed" in Labour's manifesto. (The Times)
