Latest Poll-Bolsonaro With Mountain To Climb If Lula Makes 2nd Round

The latest hypothetical second-round opinion poll from Brazil shows incumbent President Jair Bolosonaro with a mountain to climb if he faces former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the second-round run-off of next year's presidential election.

  • Datafolha poll: Hypothetical second round: Lula (PT, left): 65% (+2), Bolsonaro (ApB, right): 35% (-2). +/- vs. May 2021. Fieldwork: 7-8 July 2021. Sample size: 2,074
  • The same poll showed Bolsonaro's disapproval rating reaching its highest on record, at 51% up from 45% in the May poll.
  • The poor ratings for the incumbent come amidst a significant third wave of COVID-19 infections and fatalities, as well as a surge in inflation hitting households across the country.
