Lebanon May be Open to Maritime Border Compromise

Lebanon is willing to offer a compromise regarding its maritime border issues with Israel according to recent reports citing Lebanese sources.

  • The reports come after US energy envoy Amos Hochstein arrived in Beirut yesterday to try and mediate the dispute which boiled over last week after an Israeli linked drill ship entered disputed waters over the Karish field.
  • Lebanon says the Karish field should not be developed until talks are resolved.
  • One of the officials specified that Lebanon's position would be a claim to Line 23, a boundary in the zone, in addition to 300 km sq that includes the Qana field, but not Karish.
