Libya To Restart Full Output at Sharara Oil Field

Libya’s NOC has lifted the force majeure at the 300kbpd Sharara oil field and will restart oil production and exports, NOC said in a statement on Sunday.

  • Operations at the oil field had been stopped since early this year due to protests as workers called for social and economic reforms including jobs, better services, and a new refinery.
  • Libyan oil output dropped to 981kbpd as of 5 January due to stoppage at Sharara, the country’s oil minister said.
  • Production at the field stood around 270kbpd prior to the halt.
