Liquefaction Utilisation Recovered to 80% in December

LNG

Global liquefaction utilisation recovered from below 70% in August to nearly 80% in December according to Timera Energy.

  • Global LNG exports ended 2022 at historical highs of 49bcm in December driven by increased new supply from facilities such as Calcasieu Pass and with other facilities returning from maintenance.
  • They see possible supply growth of 20-30bcm in 2023 from the return of Freeport, increases from existing facilities such as Calcasieu Pass and Hammerfest and up to 11bcm of new capacity.
  • Downside risks to LNG exports come from an elevated risk of maintenance due to high utilisation and deferrals from last year, and due to any unexpected outages.
