LNG: Alexandroupolis LNG Facility Begins Operations
LNG
A new Greek LNG storage and regasification unit off Alexandroupolis started commercial operations off the country’s northeastern coast on Tuesday.
- The facility aims to supply gas to eight countries, including Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Hungary and Ukraine, project developer its operator Gastrade said in a statement.
- It comes as Europe continues its progress towards moving away from Russian volumes though Russian LNG still forms a big component for the region.
- The new 5.5bcm/year Alexandroupolis FSRU in Greece is set to receive its first commercial cargo arriving on October 3-4 according to Kpler last week.
- U.S. developer Venture Global LNG last month announced a five-year deal with Gastrade to regasify up to 1 million metric tons of LNG in Greece, beginning next year.
