LNG: Arctic LNG 2 Gas Processing Rose in August But Could Fall From October
LNG
Gas processing at Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 project rose to highest this year in August with cargoes loading despite western sanctions, according to a Bloomberg source.
- The Novatek PJSC-led facility processed around 315mcm of gas in August, a 10-fold growth on July, compared to a peak of over 380mcm in December. Data doesn’t specify that the volumes were liquefied.
- Gas output at feeder fields increased to more than 347mcm in August from 48mcm in July, the source added.
- Arctic LNG 2 so far has shipped six cargoes on dark-fleet tankers, according to Bloomberg ship-tracking data. Some volume was delivery to two sanctioned LNG-storage facilities with no cargo buyers yet.
- The facility has two trains in place but last month delayed the start of production at the third train from 2026 to 2028, RBC said.
- Novatek is revising promising export projects and looking for alternative options for monetizing its gas reserves due to the pressure of sanctions, Kommersant said last week.
- Arctic LNG 2 may reduce its processing and loadings from October until next summer with the Northern Sea Route closed to non-ice-class tankers on Oct. 15.
