LNG: Asian LNG Prices Tick Back Up: Reuters

LNG

Asian spot LNG prices rose this week as outages in LNG facilities in Australia and Malaysia sparked supply concerns, although buying interest from China remains limited due to higher prices, Reuters said.

  • The average price for October delivery into Nort-east Asia was at $14.00/MMBtu, compared to $13.80/MMBtu.
  • The unplanned outage at Australia’s Ichthys is affecting one train and due to last until October, while loadings at Malaysia’s Bintulu are disrupted for the coming weeks.
  • Some disruption this week from Freeport will force traders to keep an even closer watch on supply.
  • Meanwhile, ongoing heatwaves have resulted in some interest in spot volumes from Japanese and Indian buyers for Sep-Oct.
  • There is a 70%-80% probability of above average temperatures for most regions of Japan Aug. 31-Sep.6.
