LNG Capacity Extension At Rotterdam Nears FID

The planned 4bcm capacity expansion at the Rotterdam LNG import terminal is nearing a final investment decision after BP and PetroChina agreed to each book 2bcm/yr for the duration of 20 year according to statement by Gate.

  • Gasunie is looking to expand the LNG capacity at the Gate terminal in Rotterdam by 4bcm to 20bcm. Gate now has three LNG tanks.
  • Gate said in the statement that it will continue to closely cooperate with BP and PetroChina with a target of achieving FID, depending on financing and also receiving an exemption amongst other matters, by September 2023 and a start of commercial operations by Q3 2026.
  • BP and PetroChina will each acquire 2bcm/yr of regasification capacity as well as corresponding storage capacity for a period of 20 years, Gate said.
