LNG Fleet Orderbook Rose Above 1,000 Vessels in Q4

The combined fleet and orderbook of large LNG ships (60,000+ cu m) rose to 1,000 vessel for the first time in Q4 2023 according to MSI.

  • The capacity on order has risen to just over 50% of the capacity of the current fleet with 314 large LNG ships contracted since Apr 2021.
  • Despite the rising orders the delivery levels to the fleet have not responded with an average of 7.5 new ships added to the fleet each quarter over the last two years.
  • The delivery levels are however expected to rise to an average of 20 ships each quarter over the next three years according to MSI.
