NATGAS: LNG from US Could be Stored in Ukraine to Aid EU Energy Security: Sybiha
NATGAS
Ukraine and other European nations have the potential to buy and store US LNG in Ukraine to aid energy security in Europe, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Feb. 5 cited by Reuters.
- "We see a huge potential, especially after the termination of the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine, in the possibility of purchasing LNG gas from the United States of America," Sybiha said.
- "You know that Ukraine has extremely powerful underground gas storage facilities, and here, too, we have common ground for mutually beneficial cooperation, while strengthening Europe's energy security.”
- In December, Ukraine received its first US LNG shipment via a cargo delivery into the Greek import terminal at Revithoussa.
- The shipment is expected to be the first of a number of shipments from the US.
- In June 2024, Venture Global signed a non-binding agreement to supply LNG to D. Trading from its Plaquemines and CP2 export projects in the US.
- GIE data shows Ukraine storage currently just 10.8% full at 34.4TWh.
