LNG: Golden Pass LNG Seeking Permit Extension to Complete Project: Platts

LNG

Golden Pass LNG has asked the US FERC for a three-year extension to complete the Texas export project, Platts said.

  • The operator said the Nov. 30, 2026, in-service deadline “will not provide sufficient time" after the bankruptcy of its lead construction contractor.
  • It also requested an 18-month extension to its Sept. 30, 2025, deadline to start exports. However, it added that it hopes to achieve the milestone in a much shorter period.
  • The extension request accounts for delays caused by the bankruptcy of lead contractor Zachry Group.
  • Golden Pass told regulators that the project is 80% complete. Train 1 is 83% complete, Train 2 is 46% complete, and Train 3 is 31% complete.
  • Platts expects the FERC to approve the extension requests due to progress already made on its construction.
  • The setbacks at Golden Pass have already contributed to a tighter-than-expected supply picture for 2025.
