LNG: Japanese Utilities LNG Stocks Continue to Recover

LNG stockpiles held by Japanese utilities rose 1.51% w/w on Oct. 6 to 2.02m tons to follow the trend seen this time last year, according to data released by the trade ministry. Storage has recovered from the lowest since April seen on Sept. 22.

  • Storage is above the five year average for the end of September of 1.99m tons and compared to 1.87m tons this time last year.
  • Japan’s LNG import deliveries fell 0.4m tons in the week to Oct. 6, according to BNEF.
  • Japan is cooperating on LNG procurement with South Korea and Italy to ensure adequate heating season supply for the country's strategic LNG buffer.
