LNG: Jordan Pens Deal for New Onshore LNG Terminal: MEES

Jordan’s state-run Aqaba Development Corp. awarded a contract to build a permanent 5m mtpa LNG regasification terminal at Aqaba on Jordan’s Red Sea coast, MEES said.

  • The facility will be located at the existing Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah natural gas terminal.
  • The project’s aim is to be completed within 22 months, according to NS Energy.
  • The terminal will offer Jordan greater flexibility in buying LNG on the international market as the country relies heavily on gas for its power and industrial sectors.
  • LNG terminals in Jordan have also been used in the past for purchases of Egyptian LNG cargoes. However, the recent chartering of an FSRU has allowed for direct purchases.
