LNG: LNG at Sea at Least 20 Days Surges 10% on the Week

LNG

The total estimated quantity of LNG on tankers that have not unloaded for at least 20 days increased by 10% last week to 4.26m tons as of Sept. 8, according to Bloomberg estimates.

  • LNG floating storage has surged since mid August suggesting enough current supplies in key consuming regions. The increase coincides with high underground storage in Europe and poor industrial demand. The volumes could help ease some supply fears for regions like Europe as the winter season approaches.
  • Volumes at sea are well above the previous five year range for the time of year with the seasonal average around 2.15m tons. In the last couple of years LNG at sea only reached these levels in early October.
  • The estimated volume of LNG on tankers that have not unloaded for at least 30 days is also high although down on the week at 1.93m tons compared to a recent peak of 2.12m tons a week earlier.
