LNG Shipping Rates Gain as LNG Volumes at Sea Increase

LNG

LNG shipping rates have advanced as spot deliveries are moving into October when demand is typically higher according to Spark Commodities. Increasing LNG at sea could be adding to the pressure on the tanker supply as traders look to benefit from the steep price contango.

  • Spark25S Pacific rate has gained by $15,500 a day since Thursday to the highest since early January at $142,750 a day.
  • Spark30S Atlantic rate increased by $16,000 a day on Friday to $137,750 a day.
  • LNG on water for at least 20 days on 30 Aug increased to the highest since the end of July at 2.81m according to Bloomberg. The increase could be assisted by a steep month-to-month contango spread of the European TTF natural gas futures contracts. The spread has widened this week with the TTF November contact currently trading at a 10€/MWh premium over October.
