LNG Tanker in Suez Canal Likely Headed to Jordan

LNG

An LNG tanker is in the Suez Canal, heading towards the Red Sea but likely heading to Jordan's Aqaba terminal rather than through the Bab el-Mandeb strait according to ICIS.

  • Egypt has tendered to buy several LNG cargoes as it switches back from an exporter to importer. LNG supplies to Egypt would be delivered via pipeline from Jordan's terminal.
  • Egypt's own FSRU-import facilities at Ain Sukhna have departed but the country is reportedly considering chartering a new FSRU for the future.
  • This suggests a potential longer-lasting shift back towards imports net imports in summer and net exports during the winter.
  • No LNG tankers have crossed the Suez Canal since January due to Red Sea attacks.
