TotalEnergies has signed a heads of agreement with Turkey’s BOTAS for the delivery of 1.1m tons of LNG per year for ten years starting from 2027, according to a company statement.

  • “Natural gas plays a crucial role as a transition energy, addressing the intermittency of renewable energy sources and reducing emissions by replacing coal in electricity generation,” the statement said.
  • The deal has the option to redirect cargoes to Europe and Egypt according to Bloomberg as Turkey aims to become a regional hub.
  • Turkey may sign more deals to expand the gas portfolio according to the Energy Minister cited by Bloomberg. “We will continue to work to supply gas to our country from the cheapest source, under the most competitive conditions” said Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
