Transits of laden LNG vessels through the Panama Canal increased in August as water levels improved and some restrictions imposed due to the prolonged drought were gradually lifted, Platts said.

  • A total of five laden LNG carriers transited the Panama Canal in August, up from four in July.
  • Four of those tankers are headed to Asia, while the other is on route to Mexico’s Baja California.
  • The Panama Canal Authority recently lifted transit restrictions due to improving water levels at Gatum lake.
  • The Panama Canal Authority has also announced transit operation optimisation via a new long-term slot allocation sales scheme.
