Local News - Central Bank Clamps Down On Crypto

  • Mexico's central bank has quickly swatted down the cryptocurrency enthusiasm expressed by banking magnate Ricardo Salinas Pliego (ABC News)
    • The central bank issued a public warning Monday, saying banks in Mexico are not allowed to conduct transactions with cryptocurrencies. It cited the volatility of cryptocurrencies and the fact they are not backed by any government.
  • Mexico's drought is affecting close to 80% of the country, most severely in northwestern states like tomato-growing Sinaloa, but also cattle-producing Jalisco, triggering soaring prices of farm products. Reservoirs in eight of the country's 32 states are less than 10% full, according to Mexico's water commission, known as Conagua. (BBG)
