Diesel and heating oil volumes that can be moved inland by barge on the Rhine have been limited by low water levels according to Riverlake Barging.
- Barges carrying fuel from the Rotterdam area beyond the Kaub chokepoint can currently only carry just over 1,200tons of fuel, down from 2,000 tons a week ago.
- This has pushed up prices of moving heating oil to Karlsruhe, on the Upper Rhine in Germany.
- Bayernoil’s Vohburg refinery took a big diesel-making machine known as a hydrocracker out of service this week, according to Wood Mackenzie. The complex has suffered disruption to wholesale diesel supplies this month.
- Precipitation in the closest large city of Frankfurt has been revised up and is forecast to reach 5.8mm on Friday, the latest ECMWF showed.
