Maersk CEO Warns of Prolonged Red Sea Closure

The crucial Red Sea shipping route could take months to open according to Maersk’s chief executive Vincent Clerc speaking with the FT.

  • He said the prolonged closure could have a significant impact for global growth.
  • For Maersk, the diversions around the Cape of Good Hope are “putting inflationary pressure on our costs, on our customers and ultimately on consumers in Europe and the US” Clerk said.
  • He said the diversion is adding 50% to Maersk’s fuel bill.
