Maersk Confirms Attempted Attacks on Two Vessels in Red Sea

Maersk confirmed that two US-flagged vessels, the Maersk Detroit and the Maersk Chesapeake, were attacked in the Red Sea, Bloomberg reported.

  • While part of a scheduled U.S. Navy accompaniment for a northbound transit of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, “both ships reported seeing explosions close by” and the navy accompaniment intercepted projectiles.
  • The crew, ship, and cargo are unharmed.
  • “The US Navy has turned both ships around and is escorting them back to the Gulf of Aden,” Maersk said cited by Bloomberg.
  • There were 36 Suez transits today according to Marhelm data.
