Manchester Asks For GBP75mn To Move To Tier 3 Restrictions: Granada

  • The Greater Manchester region, recording some of the highest new caseload and hospitalisation numbers in the UK, has held out against going into the most severe COVID-19 restrictions in England, arguing the financing from central gov't has not been sufficient to enable workers hit by temporary business closures to support themselves.
  • PM Boris Johnson set to announce the imposition of tier 3 restrictions on Greater Manchester this afternoon. Gov't has sought to do this with the consent of the local authorities, but has said it will do so unilaterally if the consent is not given.
