US DATA
US DATA: March CPI Preview - 08:30 EDT/13:30 BST
---------------------------------------------------------------
- Overall CPI is expected to rise by 0.4% in March based on both the Bloomberg
consensus and an MNI survey of analysts. This follows a smaller 0.2% rise in
February.
- Core CPI is expected to rise by 0.2% by both Bloomberg and MNI following a
modest 0.1% gain in February.
- There is a slight tendency to overestimate both overall and core CPI in March,
so there is chance of another downside surprise
- Gas prices are expected to rise further, but food prices are expected to
moderate
- The disappointing February core reading was due to a sharp drop in medical
care prices, specifically drug prices, so a rebound is likely for that category.
