Median Poll Shows ANO Would Win Election

CZECHIA
  • The main opposition ANO party would land in the first place with 34.5% of the vote if a general election was held today, according to an opinion poll conducted by Median agency. In second place would be Prime Minister Petr Fiala's ODS (15%), followed by its junior coalition partner Pirate Party (10.5%), opposition SPD (8.5%) and coalition parties STAN (6%) and TOP 09 (5.5%). The agency noted that it was uncertain if STAN, TOP 09, KDU-CSL and the Social Democrats would make it past the 5% electoral threshold, which is required to participate in the allocation of seats in parliament. The poll implied that the current five-party coalition would capture a combined 41% of the vote, which would reduce its presence in the 200-strong Chamber of Deputies to 92 from the current 108 MPs. The poll was taken between May 1 and June 2, which suggests that the bulk of interviews were conducted after the government announced its fiscal consolidation package.
  • The CNB will announce changes to its balance sheet in the 10 days through June 20 at 12:00BST/13:00CEST.
  • Czechia's economic docket is virtually empty towards the end of the week, with the dust settling after the CNB's monetary policy decision (see our review here).
