Mexican Energy Minister Claims Dos Bocas Refinery Will Reach Full Capacity this Year

REFINING

The heavily delayed Dos Bocas refinery in Mexico, operated by Pemex, will work at full capacity this year according to Mexican Energy Minister Rocio Nahle.

  • Pemex’s seventh domestic refinery is set to have the capacity to process 340,000 bpd.
  • "We've already started producing gasoline," Nahle said, but added it was not yet a usable product.
  • "This year we're going to have the refinery working at 100%." he added.
  • The refinery is expected to produce 170,000 bpd of gasoline and 120,000 bpd of diesel. It has been built to try and end Mexico’s dependence on costly imports from the US.
  • The refinery has been delayed by more than a year and had numerous announcements about its potential start date as well as expectations of full capacity production.
