MEXICO: Congress Finalising Proceedings On Judicial Reform, Nominal Wages Due

  • Congress will finalise proceedings on the judicial reform today, with lawmakers to count votes from state legislatures in favour of the bill at 0000BST(1900ET). Yesterday, AMLO said he aims to publish the reform in the official gazette, signed as law, by Sept 15.
  • Meanwhile, President-elect Sheinbaum said yesterday that most of the Finance Minsitry’s team will stay in place under her administration, with only the undersecretary of expenditure, Juan Pablo De Botton, moving on to become Finance Minister of Mexico City. He will be replaced by Bertha Gomez Castro. Sheinbaum has already confirmed that Finance Minister Rogelio Ramirez de la O would stay in his post, but has not confirmed the position of Deputy Finance Minister Yorio yet, although he is expected to stay.
  • On the data front, nominal wages figures for August may cross at some point today. In July, wages rose by 6.5% y/y, following a 9.7% gain in June. After this release, the domestic calendar remains light of tier one data until retail sales figures on Sep 23.
